Energy and carbon advisory services
We’ve delivered a wide range of sustainable development and carbon reduction projects across many different industries and global markets.
The technologies we have experience of include those related to industrial energy efficiency, waste gas and heat to power, small-scale wind and hydro as well as biomass and biofuels.
In an advisory capacity, our work has covered forestry and land use change, sustainable development, strategic policy, energy and resource management, emission assessment and carbon management.

Project working with Anvil Knitwear to caluclate the GHG impact from the production, use and disposal of an Anvil t-shirt
PureCircle published that its high purity stevia sweeteners have a carbon footprint that is as much as 82% lower and a water footprint that is as much as 97% lower than other publicly available sweetener benchmarks
Verco was commissioned on behalf of six North London boroughs to develop an area based retrofit action plan. This is one of the most thorough pieces of analysis on Green Deal opportunities, including the range of risks, values and delivery options for Local Authorities.
FutureFit is Affinity Sutton’s flagship project that aims to provide unique insights into how the Green Deal could work in social housing. Verco helped to show how low carbon activities can be mainstreamed to deliver significant energy and CO2 savings.
This mainstream campaign was commissioned by Transform UK, the Co-operative Group and Consumer Focus. Verco provided comprehensive analysis on Green Deal/ ECO opportunities and fuel poverty alleviation potential across the UK.
The Sofala Community Carbon project began working with the Nhambita community and resident small-scale subsistence farmers in the Gorongosa National Park buffer zone in 2004.
This study was undertaken to provide UNDP and Conservation and Management of the Eastern Arc Mountain Forests (CMEAMF) with information about the potential for mobilizing carbon finance towards the conservation and restoration of forests in the Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania.
The objective of this project was to assess the viability of developing a voluntary carbon offset project that generates voluntary emission reductions (VERs) through the establishment of cocoa agroforestry systems in Saint Vincent and Ghana.

Camco Advisory Services Ltd (CAS) worked with Aggregate Industries to develop a strategic approach to carbon management. The programme identified a series of CO2 emissions reduction projects within the company’s UK operations. The carbon management strategy includes a business case, an opportunities register, an implementation plan and on-going strategic support.
We investigated the potential for whole house low carbon refurbishment to deliver 80% carbon reductions in existing homes. The work involves identifying the whole package of carbon reduction measures that are required, the cost per house of installing all these measures, the key barriers to a whole house approach and the main policy instruments for delivery. Our research fed into the UK Government’s ‘Heat and Energy Saving Strategy’.
We helped establish the Existing Homes Alliance, which sets out the action required from businesses, housing and environmental organisations and government to put the UK housing stock on the road to deep cuts in carbon emissions and energy bills.
Large, long term, phased developments such as the 9500 home Northstowe exemplar of sustainability pose critical challenges for the delivery of community energy systems due to the requirement for early investment in shared generation and distribution infrastructure set against uncertainty in the timing, value and size of the customer base and associated revenue streams.
Verco has supported Shell UK’s Springboard competition every year since its launch in 2005

The Zero Carbon House is a low energy demonstration project to show how renewable energy can create a unique living experience on a remote island in a severe climate. A holistic approach has been taken to eliminating household carbon emissions that would normally result from heating and powering the home, running the family car and growing and transporting food.
