Overall Role Purpose

As a Senior Consultant you are a senior project manager and account lead  for delivering sustainability consultancy services to corporate clients, with a focus on climate change and the energy transition.   Verco’s clients are typically multinational manufacturing companies with energy intensive operations and long supply chains.   We work closely with the sustainability teams of the companies, supporting them to develop climate strategy, achieve reductions, report on progress and manage climate risks.

Core service areas include:

·       GHG emission inventories and product life cycle assessment for corporate clients. 

·       Decarbonisation analysis, net zero strategy and science-based target setting.

·       Climate risk analysis and quantification.

·       Supporting climate-related disclosure requirements, such as CSRD, CDP, ISSB/IFRS and Climate Transition Plans; especially the quantitative elements of these.

By engaging with a wide range of key stakeholders on a day-to-day basis, you play a key part in managing clients’ sustainability risks and realising opportunities.  You are also responsible for targeted business development, service development and marketing activities.

How you contribute

    Account management:  You maintain strong relationships with our existing corporate clients and build new relationships to win further work including cross-selling Verco’s full range of services.

    Project Management:  You manage consultancy projects to ensure we deliver to clients on time, to quality and within agreed budgets.  You manage the delivery of our clients’ sustainability objectives and act as confident agent of change to help ensure they continue to be a market leader in ESG.

    Technical/regulatory input: You track the evolving requirements of GHG accounting and decarbonisation of relevance to Verco’s corporate clients, such as the GHG Protocol, SBTi’s Net Zero Corporate Standard and the quantitative aspect of climate disclosures.

    Strategic Service Development: You work with the Head of Service to develop Verco’s Aim for Zero services in line with changes to the sector, policy, the economy, etc. to ensure they remain competitive.

    External champion for service: You promote Verco’s services via networking externally to bring in new clients and gain repeat work from existing clients

    Business development and proposal writing:  You identify opportunities for sales and business development, progressing these to written proposals to meet clients’ needs and achieve sales targets.

    Operational:  You provide timely responses to operational needs including invoicing, reviews, project management information, time-sheeting, health & safety, etc. 

    Environmental:  You contribute to Verco’s sustainability targets and internal CSR team objectives when required.

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential

Degree (or equivalent) in applied or pure sciences such as engineering, mathematics, geography, natural sciences, economics, and physics with a minimum 2:1 classification, or equivalent and relevant areas demonstrating qualitative and quantitative skills.

Desirable

Masters/relevant post-graduate qualification (e.g. clean energy / sustainability / business)   Member of professional institution i.e. IEMA; Project Management qualification i.e. APMP

Employment Experience  

Essential: Experience of:

  • managing projects/programmes, project teams & delivering to deadlines
  • key account management and new business development with clients
  • corporate decarbonisation and net zero strategy.   
  • engaging successfully with senior stakeholders in client businesses
  • leading, facilitating & presenting at workshops

Desirable

Experience of:

  • managing bids and bid teams and delivering proposals to deadlines
  • advising clients on strategic risks and opportunities
  • presenting at external webinar, seminars and conferences

Knowledge & Understanding

Essential

  • GHG accounting of complex value chains, in particular scope 3
  • A solid understanding of the principles of decarbonisation and the major opportunities in different sectors of industrial economies.
  • Developing decarbonisation plans in line with corporate net zero frameworks, especially the SBTi.
  • An appreciation of wider sustainability issues and how organisations manage sustainability risks and opportunities.

Desirable    

  • Understanding of corporate climate disclosure policy frameworks and initiatives.
  • Climate risk and opportunity analysis, and mitigation strategies.

Skills / Competencies

Essential

  • Excellent programme and project management skills
  • Sophisticated analytical approach and experience with working with large data sets.
  • Ability to work independently and creatively on challenging research problems
  • Demonstrable proactive long-term approach; planning & organisational skills
  • High-level of competence in the use of IT, including Excel (in particular), and Word & PowerPoint.
  • Strong communicator in both verbal and written formats, including messaging through innovative and effective graphics and presentation of analysis
  • Friendly and organised approach. Able to work with people across all levels of an organisation.

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Power BI and other Office 365 products
  • Experience of supporting the deployment of enterprise software systems.
