The Role

This role sits within our Real Estate sector which works with market leaders in commercial real estate to develop innovative global zero carbon strategies. Our clients are building owners, real estate investors and developers and our services are shaped to help them transition to a net zero economy. 

Our Deliver for Zero service acts on clients’ net zero strategic aspirations, breaking them down into implementable carbon/energy action plans and projects. You work directly with clients to turn their aims into a reality through site audits, monitoring and proposing short-term data solutions to optimise efficiency.

As Principal Consultant, your purpose is to lead the technical delivery of complex energy management and building optimisation projects to Verco’s Real Estate clients. By engaging with a wide range of key stakeholders on a day-to-day basis, you play a key role in managing sustainability risks and realising opportunities. 

Working as part of our Deliver for Zero (Real Estate) team, you manage projects that cover the following services: 

• The assessment of readiness of organisations to deliver sustainable savings. 

• Working with real estate clients to identify and prioritise the most cost-effective opportunities, including technological, behavioural and process optimisation initiatives. 

• Building compelling business cases for achieving staged and pragmatic energy and cost reduction. 

• Delivery of services/opportunities, with a guaranteed outcome and savings verified. 

You also act as a mentor - and possible line manager - to other members of the team and there are opportunities to work on other projects within the wider Real Estate and Corporates teams, to develop and share your knowledge.

How you contribute

    How you contribute:

    Project Management: You manage a variety of complex building optimisation and energy reduction projects at a wide range of real estate sites concurrently ensuring the successful delivery to the client on time, to quality and within an agreed budget. 

    Technical input: You provide technical input to projects, including data analytics, modelling and strategic insights as required for the delivery of the service areas outlined above. You provide oversight and expertise to the team, training other members of the team as required. 

    Business development and proposal writing: You identify opportunities for sales and business development and progress business development opportunities in order to increase sales and meet targets. You write proposals that meet the needs of clients and secure sales.

    Client management: You ensure strong relationships with existing clients with the expectation of maintaining and, where possible, increasing revenues from key accounts. You build lasting relationships with new clients in order to win further work including from cross-selling Verco’s full range of services. 

    Operational: You provide timely responses to operational needs including (but not limited to) invoicing, reviews, project management information, time-sheeting, health & safety, etc. As a senior team member there will also be an expectation to share knowledge to support the development of junior team members. 

    Environmental: You contribute to Verco’s sustainability targets and internal CSR team objectives when required.

What you bring

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential: Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering 

Desirable: Masters or relevant post-graduate qualification 

Chartered Engineer status 

Member of professional institutions e.g. IMechE, IChemE 

Employment Experience

Essential: Experience of

- Managing complex or multi-client projects 

- Energy management and auditing including onsite assessments 

- Development of net zero pathways 

- Key account management and new business development 

- Managing bids and delivering proposals 

- Leading & facilitating workshops/seminars 

- Mentoring and training team members 

Desirable:

- Commercial experience in securing and negotiating business contracts; supporting others to do the same 

- Line management

Knowledge & Understanding

Essential: A sound technical knowledge of energy use in buildings including 

- Energy use in buildings (Boilers, HVAC, lighting, motors & drives, BMS, etc.)

- Energy management systems (ISO50001) 

- Metering, Monitoring & Targeting 

- Heat Recovery Systems 

- Renewable energy 

- the policy framework our clients operate e.g. ESOS, CRREM, UKGBC Net Zero Targets, NABERS

Desirable: Knowledge of

- Process Optimisation

- Electrical infrastructure & systems 

- Technology design & implementation 

- Measurement &verification 

- DSR and flexibility 

- Renewable energy technology design and implementation 

- CHP feasibility & design

Skills & Competencies

Essential: High level competence in the use of IT, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint. 

Strong communicator; verbal and written 

Proactive and inquisitive approach 

Desirable: Working knowledge of Microsoft Power BI 

Foreign language skills
