A leading owner, developer, and manager of designer outlets in Europe. The portfolio includes 26 centres across the UK, Canada and continental Europe, covering 695,000m2 of retail space and receiving 90 million visitors per year.

Objective

  • To provide a full Scope 1, 2 and 3 baseline for the business, following an assessment of the materiality of main emissions sources.
  • To deliver recommendations on the focus areas for a net zero carbon strategy for the business.

Process

  • We undertook an assessment of the Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions sources material to the business.
  • We collected data to enable the calculation of a full carbon baseline, following methods consistent with industry best practise.
  • We completed technical modelling of the designer outlets to understand the energy, and carbon-saving potential to achieve NZC performance.
  • We provided recommendations on the focus areas for a net zero carbon strategy.
  • We supported them with the preparation of materials for presentation to the senior management team.

Outcome

We provided a clear, high-level roadmap for achieving the business’s net zero goals, including a list of key focus areas and an action plan outlining recommended changes to policies and processes to mobilise strategy.

Our findings and recommendations were then delivered by the companies Sustainability Manager to the designer outlets board.
