Why Verco is a Best for the World™ B Corp for exceptional impact on its Workers

We are beyond happy to share that we’ve been recognised as one of the Best for the World™ B Corps of 2022 for both Governance and Workers. To be Best for the World™, B Corps must have scores in the top 5% of one or more of the five impact areas assessed towards the certification. Congratulations to fellow BFTW companies!

As part of our commitment to help the BCorp movement make progress towards our collective goal and vision: to transform the global economic system to benefit all people, communities, and the planet, we have given some examples of how we achieved our recognition of being Best for the World in the Workers category:

Workers

We annually ask our team how we’re doing, and what we can improve; as well as giving opportunities to input ideas and suggestions throughout the year. We monitor employee satisfaction and score very highly, we are proud that we outperform industry benchmarks.

Financial security

We want to ensure that our employees are supported and this includes financially. We monitor and always exceed the living wage for all our employees, whilst also giving performance (company and individual) based bonuses to all our team.

We are an employee-owned business, and opportunities are given to all our team to buy shares and to therefore receive profit based dividends.

Wellness

We sponsor and encourage workers to participate in health and wellness activities during the work week (e.g. taking a walk at lunchtime, participating in fitness challenges such as the JLL Triathlon, socials).

We have policies and programs in place to prevent ergonomic-related injuries in the workspace and we also focus on mental health awareness; our team can complete wellness action plans which highlight their preferred ways of working.

Training and development

Verco is a technical knowledge based consultancy, and therefore learning is at the heart of everything we do. Across the business there are so many opportunities to share ideas and understanding, from weekly knowledge share sessions, to team updates, to fortnightly company wide updates.

We invest in our team’s development, not just with time, but also in the attendance on industry leading training. We also encourage all our team to have at least one professional membership by funding these.

We provide reimbursements or programs for intensive continuing education credentials (for example we have sponsored an employee to get a Phd and encourage staff to become chartered). We have a Leadership Development training program which runs on an annual basis and Verco supports staff to become STEM ambassadors.

We encourage everyone in the team to develop, and you can see how successful this is, by the members of the team who have been promoted in their time with us, i.e. moving from Consultant to Managing Director! Many of our Senior team started in graduate roles. We focus on the individual and recognise the value they bring to the team.

Flexibility

We aim to support our team in as many ways as we can, and a particular focus is on flexibility. We offer formal and informal flexible working options, remote and hybrid working as well as sabbaticals and options to buy additional leave.

And We’re just getting started! We will continue collaborating with the global #BCorp community to improve and positively impact all our stakeholders.
